“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." To this day, especially in times of "disaster," I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.” ― Fred Rogers Where do you see “the helpers” in the midst of the world and its pain today? When have you been the “helper” someone else has seen, that offered them hope when they were tempted to despair, comfort when they were afraid (we are often unaware of these moments, thinking our little efforts in the midst of it all are mostly insignificant—but has anyone ever reflected to you that your work in the world encouraged them somehow?)? When you read a news story this week, consider keeping an eye out for the ones who are embodying God’s care in the midst of it all, and letting *that* be the story that sinks deepest into your soul.
