Good morning, friends. The season of Epiphany concludes this week, with Sunday commemorating the Transfiguration of Jesus (and Ash Wednesday starting the season of Lent a few days later!). Epiphany is a season of light - of revelation of who Jesus is – and the Transfiguration is one more moment of light. On a mountainside with his friends, Jesus literally begins to emit light, giving his friends with him a glimpse of the divinity that has been hidden in his humanity all this time. There was more to Jesus than met the eye, and this day, they got to see one tiny glimpse of that. For a moment, he changed. Into something closer to his divine glory, something extraordinary, and it was a gift to them to be there, to witness this change. This week, we’re going to be talking about transfiguration in all its forms. We’ll sit with Jesus’ transfiguration; and, more broadly, we’ll look at the ways we are transformed in our own lives, mirroring that light, that glory, as we catch glimpses of God (and our truest selves!) in us, too.
